Do I have to take a breath test just because a police officer wants me to?

No. An officer cannot force you to blow into a machine. Of course, the State will attempt to punish you for your refusal. DPS is authorized to suspend your drivers license for 180 days if its shown that at the time you refused, the officer asking you to take a breath test had reasonable suspicion to stop your car and probable cause to believe you were intoxicated.
