How to Avoid a DWI
Avoiding a DWI is not a matter of not getting caught, it’s a matter of not drinking and driving in the first place. If you’re already worried about getting a conviction and considering who to hire for legal representation, you probably shouldn’t be driving at that point. While our offices would be more than happy to defend you if you do get a DWI, you are certain to be a lot happier if you just avoid getting one in the first place by following these basic tips presented by Chernoff Law.
- Limit yourself. It is perfectly legal to enjoy a few drinks before driving, as long as you are still sober. Always wait one hour in between each drink and one hour before consuming your final drink and hitting the road. It is important to note that you can still get arrested for drunk driving, even if you are under the legal limit, but this situation is very rare. If this does happen, we can often have the charges dropped as the only evidence will be the officer’s belief that you were intoxicated.
- Don’t drink at all. Some people find they cannot limit themselves to one drink per hour and are better off just not drinking at all. Try drinking soda and juices all night and you may be surprised just how good of a time you have without any alcohol.
- Walk home. If you live within walking distance, then get some exercise and just pick up your car the next day. It is important to note that in some states you can still get a DWI if you are riding a bike, ATV, even a horse, while intoxicated. Your Houston criminal defense lawyer can help you fight these charges, but it is best to just walk instead.
- Call a taxi. That’s what these vehicles are there for.
